BRODHEAD - Brodhead's annual Christmas Fire and Ice Festival is Friday and Saturday.

Here's a rundown of planned activities:

Friday

Downtown: The north side of the square will be blocked off with Zoli Akacsos, from Monroe, sculpting blocks of ice into pieces of winter land art from 3 to 8 p.m. Fire rings will be set up for roasting s'mores, marshmallows and hot dogs. Hot chocolate and chili will also be for sale to help keep people warm. A Hot Toddy Bar will offer four specialty drinks and two beer choices for adults who are 21 or older.

The Brodhead Kelch Aviation Museum will have on display on the square a 1932 Curtiss-Wright 12-W Bi-wing airplane from 3 to 9 p.m. (weather permitting). The 1932 Curtiss-Wright is rare; only 12 were built and only two or three remain flying in the world.

The third annual Wheels to Prosper Car Give-a-way will be held at 6 p.m. on the square.

Take a free ride on the horse-drawn carriage from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at city hall and then an additional hour after the parade. Fifty/fifty raffle tickets will be on sale from 4 to 7 p.m. One lucky winner will receive half of the sales and the Brodhead White Gift will receive the other half.

Kettle corn can be purchased near the Bank of Brodhead sign.

Photos with Santa: Santa Claus will arrive around 3:30 p.m. at the Java House for children's photos with Santa from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

City hall: Activities for children 3 to 12 years old will be held at from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and will include free activities such as cookie decorating, face painting and tattoos. The Memorial Tree will be on display.

Arts and crafts fair: Christmas gift ideas will be available at the arts and crafts fair which is held at the Bank of Brodhead's Courtesy Room from 4 to 7 p.m.

Lighted parade: Magic fills the air at 7 p.m. with the lighted parade traveling down Center Avenue. The lighted parade will feature Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, Ronald McDonald, Cindy Lou Who contest participants, and pets decked out in Christmas costumes, along with more than 30 parade entries.

Frozen T-shirt contest: The Fire and Ice Festival is gearing up for the 3rd Annual Frozen T-shirt contest. The concept is to remove a frozen t-shirt from a zip-locked bag and race to thaw the t-shirt and to put it on as if wearing a t-shirt.

Contestants ages 16 and over are being sought to compete for prizes: first place $100, second place $50, and third place $25. There is a $15 entry fee, and you can register the night of the event.

The contest will be held at 8 p.m. on the square. You can download the form and rules from our Facebook page.

Saturday
