Fire and Ice Festival set for this weekend

BRODHEAD - The 2012 Fire and Ice Festival is scheduled Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8.

Events on Friday include ice sculpting by Zoli Akacsos from 3 to 7 p.m., and fire rings for roasting s'mores, marshmallows, hot dogs and hot chocolate. There will be free photos with Santa Claus from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Java House. Kettle corn will also be for sale downtown. Children 3 to 12 years can decorate cookies, do activity fun sheets and get tattoos from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the city hall, along with a petting zoo outside. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8 p.m. at the city hall for free, compliments of Brodhead BID.

At 7 p.m., the lighted parade will feature Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who and area pets decorated in the Christmas spirit. Around the parade area, hot cider and gingerbread cookies will be sold.

Events on Saturday include breakfast with Santa and sledding (weather permitting) from 7 to 11 a.m. at Billy's Sand Trap/Decatur Lake Golf Course, sponsored by the Brodhead Jaycees.

Kettle corn will be for sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Brodhead. Carriage rides with free admission will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon in front of city hall. Poinsettias will be for sale to the public from 9 a.m. to noon at the city hall.

The Christmas Home Tours will be available from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets can be pre-purchased at the Harvest Moon, downtown Brodhead, or on the day of the event.
