MONROE - Two months into the new year finds the Green County Humane Society with a profit of almost $5,000 and a new van, treasurer Paul Barrett told the board Wednesday.
In February, the humane society took in about $16,800 and spent about $11,600, Barrett said.
The shelter had higher than expected heating expenses in February due to the colder weather but improvements have been made at the shelter which will make the building more energy efficient, he added.
Barrett also told the board Alphorn Ford-Lincoln-Mercury donated a van to the humane society. Some of the cost for the van was offset by donations by an anonymous humane society member and former board member Mike Jerge.
In other financial matters the board learned Toffler's in New Glarus plans to have a fundraiser for the shelter April 5. Events at the business include a wine and cheese tasting event, a silent auction and a concert. Proceeds will be given to the humane society.
The board also discussed other fundraisers such as Pedal for Paws in July.

Voted to make $1,500 in financial assistance available to the Everyone Needs a Home organization, based in South Wayne, to help spay and neuter animals in Green County.
Heard a report from shelter manager Tonya Kelly that foster homes are still needed for dogs to help make room for the 20 dogs seized at a Juda residence in February. People interested in fostering a dog can contact the shelter at 325-9600.
