MONROE - The sounds of fighter jets may be heard during the evenings of this week, as the 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard recommences night training exercises.
According to a report from the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, the 115th Fighter Wing will conduct nighttime training flights Monday through Friday this week.
During the exercises, F-16 fighter jets will take off from and return to Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison, taking flight paths over the surrounding area designed to minimize noise disruptions in residential areas. However, flyovers may still be audible in some locations.
Nighttime flyovers were heard in Monroe in late November, when the 115th Fighter Wing last engaged in night flying exercises. The wing's public affairs officer, Major Kristin Boustany, said at the time that the night flights took advantage of the early darkness after the end of daylight savings time.
Boustany also said that, beyond the night training this week, no additional night flights were scheduled in the near future.
