MONROE - It might be possible Congress could pass some type of health care reform by the end of the year, said Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Middleton, Saturday at the dedication for the Green County Justice Center.
"I think there's a good chance of having something by Christmas," he said. "We have to take our time."
Feingold, who was in Monroe for the dedication, said some of the information told to people during the health care debate was "pure myth," and that misinformation contributed to the sometimes angry comments at town hall meetings throughout the summer.
"I was a little surprised by the intensity," he said, of the meetings.
Feingold also talked about the war in Afghanistan.
According to the Associated Press, President Barack Obama is considering sending large numbers of additional U.S. forces to Afghanistan next year, but fewer than the 40,000 his war commander, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, prefers.
Feingold doesn't want Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan.
"It's not the headquarters of al-Qaida, anymore," he said.
He said he would do what he could to try to block a move to send more troops.
