DARLINGTON — A 60-year-old Illinois man is wanted on a charge that he sexually assaulted a young child in Lafayette County, while his son faces a similar charge in Dane County for the same alleged victim.

David A. Hurley, Lena, was charged April 25 in Lafayette County Circuit Court with first-degree child sex assault involving sexual contact with a person younger than 13.

The Class B felony is punishable by up to 60 years in prison. A warrant is issued for his arrest.

According to court records, the child told a county human services worker in 2016 that Hurley routinely rubbed the child’s genital area at a rural South Wayne residence while babysitting and told the child, “When you’re older, you’ll have a sexy butt.” In 2018, the child disclosed more information about interactions with Hurley and described a sexual assault involving penetration.

Hurley’s son, 33-year-old Beaver Dam resident Jeramie W. Hurley, formerly of South Wayne, is facing a similar charge for an alleged assault of the same child at a Madison hotel.

Court records indicate the child’s allegations against the Hurleys are corroborated by the child’s brother. He told investigators he woke up one night to the child screaming “stop” and saw the elder Hurley trying to take off the child’s clothes.
