The farms are available for tours between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28. The tours are in an open house format in which dairy producers can visit any of the host farms. There won't be any central meeting place during the day. A representative from each farm will be on hand to answer any questions regarding how and why they modernized. All participants should wear plastic boots at the farms, which will be provided.
MONROE - It's an event to show how modern technology has changed the way people farm in Green County.
On Thursday, six dairy farms in Green County will host tours to show off recent modernization improvements to facilities. The improvements are meant to help reduce labor and increase production and animal comfort.
The host farms all have different ways to house cows, including three- and four-row freestall barns, cross ventilation systems and a composted bedded pack barn. One of the farms on the tour has a new calf and heifer facility for calves ranging from 3 to 22 months old. The building features include bedded packed bays, natural ventilation, outside drive-by feeding and headlocks.
