BROWNTOWN — Several area fire departments responded to a fully engulfed house fire on Melvin Road late Sunday night, Aug. 24.
The home, located in the 7900 block of Melvin Road in Cadiz Township southeast of Browntown, had flames billowing out of the roof and windows when firefighters arrived. A mutual aid box alarm (MABAS) was called.
Responding departments included Browntown/Cadiz/Jordan Fire District, Monroe Rural Fire District, Monroe Fire, Woodford, South Wayne, Brodhead, Blanchardville, Monticello, New Glarus, Juda, Gratiot, Winslow and Green County EMS.
The house was a total loss.
One night earlier, Monroe Rural, Browntown, Monticello and Juda fire departments had responded to a structure fire on Platinum Drive, just west of Monroe. That fire was put under control in less than 20 minutes, according to Monroe Rural Fire District Chief Jeff Kundert.
“Upon arrival MRFD personnel entered through front door and went downstairs into garage where we found heavy smoke and active fire in garage,” Kundert said in a press release.
The fire caused about $150,000 worth of damage, and crews were on scene for about two hours.
