Family Biz, Jimmys clean up at MAMAS

MADISON - Two rock bands with ties to the Monroe area took home multiple honors from the Madison Area Music Awards Sunday, June 23.

The Jimmys won for Artist of the Year and Best Blues Performer at the 10th annual awards ceremony at Overture Center's Capitol Theater.

The Family Business swept the Rock category, with awards for Best Rock Performer, Best Rock Album ("Nightmares and Wildest Dreams") and Best Rock Song ("Downhill").

Lead singer Alec White, a 2006 Monroe High School grad, won for Best Male Vocalist.

The Family Business also won an award in the Unique Song category for "Boogie Man."

Several members of The Jimmys also won in categories for instrumental musicianship: Peterson Ross (woodwinds, Darren Sterud (brass) and Jimmy Voegeli (keyboard).

Monroe's Colin Callahan also won for Youth Male Vocalist.

The Jimmys' next local gig is 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, July 18 at Toffler's Pub and Grill, 200 5th Ave., New Glarus. The band is also performing at the Argyle-Adams Fire Department's 100th Anniversary on Saturday, July 20.

The Family Business is performing in Monroe next at the Thursday, July 11 Concert on the Square.
