TOWN OF SPRING GROVE — A rural Brodhead residence is a total loss following an April 20 structure fire.

Brodhead crews were called to the property located on Pedee Road at approximately 11:29 a.m. and stayed on scene until approximately 4:30 p.m., calling in 13 other fire departments and two ambulances for support, Heather Oborne of the Brodhead Fire Department said.

One resident who was inside at the time of the fire received minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.

Brodhead Fire Chief Rob Scheidegger believes the fire started between the home’s garage, breezeway and kitchen. Foul play is not suspected.

Supporting the Brodhead Fire Department on the scene was Browntown Fire, Dakota Fire, Albany Fire, Monroe Rural, Evansville Fire, Town of Beloit Fire, Brooklyn Fire, Cedarville Fire, Footville Fire, Rock City Fire, Juda Fire, South Wayne Fire and Orfordville Fire. 

Several efforts by community citizens have launched to help support the family of eight that lost their home, as well as a vehicle. The family has a high school student, a middle school student, two in elementary school, plus two toddlers. A GoFundMe was set up that had raised over $4,700 in less than 48 hours by more than 73 donors.
