MONROE - The recreation department still has openings for fall programs.
The new fall dance class will be on Mondays through Oct. 29. The instructor is Kathryn Zastrow. The class size is limited to 12 dancers. The Ballet Blitz I class for 3- and 4-year-olds will be held from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. The Ballet Blitz II class for 5- and 6-year olds will be held from 5:50 to 6:20 p.m. The Ballet/Jazz/Creative Movement Combo class for 5- through 8-year-olds will be held from 6:25 to 6:55 p.m. The Pop Class for 7- through 9-year olds will be held from 7 to 7:30 p.m. No Sunday dance classes will be held this fall.
There are still openings in the tumbling classes, which are for anyone ages 4 through 8. The classes meet at Northside Gym from 6 to 7 p.m. Participants will be introduced to basic tumbling moves, climbing the rope, using a spring board and balance beam, hula hoops and more. The first session runs Thursdays, from Sept. 13 through Oct. 25 and the second session runs Mondays, Jan. 14 through Feb. 25. The cost is $24 for residents and $34 for non-residents. Class size is limited.
The new Super Hero Games program will allow participants to play super hero games such as "Spiderman Web Walk," "Spiderman Balloon Toss," "Bean Bag Attack," "Kryptonite Race," "X-ray Vision" and "Mission Blast." On the last day, all participants will have their faces painted like super heroes by Dotty the Clown. The program will be from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 18 through Oct. 30 at the community center. The program is for boys and girls ages 5 and older. Participants are encouraged to wear their super hero costumes or T-shirts. The cost is $21 for residents and $31 for non-residents.
An elementary drawing class and a cartooning class will be held on Thursday, beginning Sept. 27. The drawing class is from 4 to 5 p.m. and the cartooning class is from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. at the community center. Session I is Thursdays, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 11, 18. Session II is Thursdays, Nov. 1, 8, 29 and Dec. 6. The drawing class is $40 and the cartooning class is $42.

The class meets on Fridays, Oct. 5 through Jan. 25 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the community center. Winter Playtime is an indoor preschool program. The children learn how to follow rules, share, listen, get along with others and make new friends while making crafts and playing games inside. The cost is $65 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Class size is limited. Instructors are Ruth Maurer, Judy Kaderly, John Lehan and Ashley Hartman.
