MONTICELLO - Green County Land and Water Conservation Department, along with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, will present 2015 Fall Pasture at 10 a.m. Sept. 23 at Green Fire Farm, N5307 Ringhand Road.
The Martys have been farming on the land for 160 years. James Marty is the fifth generation. Jacob Marty, James' son, is the sixth generation and the third Jacob Marty to work the land. The farm now comprises 410 acres, most of which are tillable and intensively cropped.
Jacob Marty grew up and helped out on the farm. He has just recently completed college. From what Jacob has learned at school and on farm, he has developed a passion for managed grazing.
He has started to follow his aspiration to create a successful operation and to share his desire with others and convince them that a managed grazing system is economically feasible.
