TOWN OF ARGYLE - A 77-year-old Illinois woman reported missing Friday was found dead Saturday night near her car just off Old Q Road in the Town of Argyle.
The body of Mary T. Scudder, Freeport, was found in some trees and bushes about 30 feet from her car, according to Lafayette County Chief Deputy John Reichling. Coroner Rudy Gebhardt pronounced her dead at the scene.
Exposure to the elements is believed to be a contributing factor in her death. Authorities are still investigating the death, and an autopsy is planned. No more details were available Sunday.
Family members reported Scudder as missing since Friday. She was believed to be on her way to Superior.
At 6:16 p.m. Saturday, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office 911 Center was notified of a vehicle sitting just off Old Q Road that matched the description of Scudder's vehicle. Assisting deputies in a search at the scene were the Argyle-Adams and Blanchardville Fire Departments, Argyle Police Department, Argyle EMS and K-9 teams from Monroe and Darlington.
