Expansion planned for New Glarus Home

MONROE - The New Glarus Home plans to build a 26-unit apartment complex next spring.

"There are a lot of people staying in their homes longer or going with assisted living rather than coming to nursing homes," home secretary Joyce Ziehli said.

The Residential Care Apartment Complex (RCAC) will be built on the retirement campus in New Glarus, located at 600 Second Ave.

Ziehli said the decision to build was based on studies of a need to provide area seniors with a different housing option that includes access to health care services.

Assisted living housing provides seniors with independence but also gives them some help when it comes to daily activities. The apartments will be between 800 and 1,000 square feet.

New Glarus Home Executive Director Roger Goepfert said the new housing will enhance current services for senior housing, assisted living, rehabilitation and skilled nursing services.

"We strive to provide our residents with the highest quality of life," he said.

The New Glarus Home includes a 97-bed nursing home, 22 independent living apartments, 13 duplexes for independent living and 10 assisted living apartments. The home has been in operation since January 1966.

New Glarus Home also operates St. Clare Friedensheim in Monroe, a 50-unit residential care apartment complex, in partnership with Monroe Clinic and St. John's United Church of Christ.
