MONROE - A traveling Vietnam-veteran remembrance memorial will be on display in Monroe at the Behring Senior Center in October.

"Wisconsin Remembers: A Face for Every Name" is a traveling exhibit that features a photo for each of the 1,161 Wisconsinites officially listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The exhibit includes photos for names that are listed on the Highground Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Neillsville. Wisconsin Remembers is a tribute to lost life and lost potential.

The exhibit will be featured at the Behring Senior Center in Monroe including a grand opening reception on Oct. 7, with Taps played at 9 a.m. and a keynote speaker at 1 p.m. Community gatherings will be held intermittently from Oct. 7-28.

This display is sponsored by the Behring Senior Center, the Monroe Public Library, VFW 2312 Cecil Jones Post, American Legion Zilmer Riley Post and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.

The photos in the exhibit were collected by volunteers from throughout Wisconsin over the past eight years.

Friends and family of those who were killed in Vietnam submitted photos, but so did students, teachers and others who simply wanted to put a face to the names listed on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial known as "The Wall" in Washington, D.C.

The images tell the story of the men and women who are listed on The Wall as part of a new Education Center the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is building on the National Mall.

Wisconsin was the fifth state in the nation to find a photo for every resident listed on The Wall.
