MONROE - On May 8, Ron Markham, representing the Monroe Excellence In Education Advisory Board, awarded $9,593 for 11 projects to enhance educational experiences for Monroe students.
Since its inception in 2002, the Monroe Excellence In Education Foundation has awarded more than $122,049. The foundation aims to respond to the need of schools in the district wanting to start new, innovative programs or expand current services.
This year's projects included:
Rotating art bins: All elementary art classes
Stuart Stott's author, singer, educator and storyteller workshop: Northside Elementary
All Access Arts, funding used to make attendance at "Arts" programs available to those who may not be able to access them otherwise: District-wide
Myths and Legends: New Monroe High School class
3D builders, Materials encouraging students to think three-dimensionally: Northside Elementary
Classcraft, Purchase of application to help teach "soft skills" such as team-building: MHS
Rube Goldberg Machines, materials to take a simple task and make it more complicated: MHS
Mystery Science, online program aimed at enhancing science school-wide: Northside Elementary
Wisconsin Economic Challenge, transportation costs for students attending this elite program: MHS
The final award was a special one given this year through the establishment of a special fund in the memory of school board member Scott Schmidt. It will be used to replace a digital read-out scale in the MHS Tech Department.
