MONROE - Incumbent state senators Jon Erpenbach and Dale Schultz easily defeated their opponents Tuesday for new four-year terms in the Senate.
Erpenbach, D-Waunakee, defeated challenger Kurt Schlicht, R-Cross Plains, by a vote of 33,814 to 21,766. Erpenbach, who was first elected to the Senate in 1998, received about 61 percent of the vote to 39 percent for Schlicht.
In Green County, Erpenbach received 7,321 votes, about 56 percent, to 5,780, about 44 percent, for Schlicht.
Schultz, R-Richland Center, defeated his opponent, Carol Beals, D-Platteville, by a vote of 33,999 or 63 percent, to 20, 352, or 37 percent.
Schultz has been in the Senate since 1991.
