WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - During the American Emu Association National Convention held July 12 through the 14, the AEA 2013 Pioneer Award was presented to Michael and Joylene Reavis owners of Sugar Maple Emu Farm, Brodhead.
The AEA Pioneer Award is given annually to active AEA members, for their dedicated service and accomplishments promoting the growth of the emu industry.
The Reavis' have been raising emus since 1995 on their 10-acre farm, which is currently home to 120 emus of all ages. The Reavis' also sell wholesale and retail products and give tours of their farm by appointment. The Reavis' have been members of AEA since 1994.
Joylene Reavis is currently the president of the Wisconsin Emu Association and served six years as an AEA Region 3 director/board secretary. She is the founder and coordinated for AEA's National Emu Week.
