DARLINGTON - An Evansville man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child and one related charge in Lafayette County Circuit Court.
Timothy James Edwards, 31, faces charges of sexually assaulting two young girls between December of 2014 and April of 2015.
Edward's attorney, Nathaniel Curry, argued that the testimony of the victims did not meet the burden of proof for the charges. One of the alleged victims was too young to coherently describe the assault, and a DNA test found no matches between Edwards and the victims' sexual assault examinations.
Green County Judge James Beer disagreed and found that the burden of proof had been met. Having found probable cause, Beer ordered Edwards to be bound over for arraignment.
Edwards' next court appearance will be on May 18 for a status conference.
