Educational session on 'Village Powers for Town Boards' Tuesday

CALAMINE - The Lafayette County University of Wisconsin-Extension Office will be hosting an educational session at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Willow Springs Town Hall.

The topic of "Village Powers for Town Boards" will be presented by Dan Hill, local government specialist, Philip Freeburg J.D., local government law educator, both from the UW- Extension Local Government Center, and Rick Stadelman, executive director of the Wisconsin Towns Association.

Following the presentation of information, questions from the public will follow. The advantages and disadvantages of "Village Powers for Town Boards" will be discussed. The informational meeting is open to all residents in and around Lafayette County. For additional information, contact the Lafayette County UW-Extension Office at 608-776-4820.

Hill served in the Lafayette County UW-Extension Office as the community, natural resource and economic development educator from 1989 to 2003. He currently works with the UW-Extension Local Government Center focusing on open meetings, open records, elections, meeting management, agendas, minutes, parliamentary procedure, public policy and education.

Freeburg is an attorney who focuses on local government law in general; powers and duties of local government bodies and officials; land use regulation; open meetings and records; ethics and conflicts of interest. He has done presentations with the Lafayette County Board in the past. In October 2013, Freeburg presented to the Board on open meeting laws, walking quorums and properly setting agendas.
