MONROE - Teachers in the Monroe school district will receive a flat $1,160 raise across the board this year.
The Monroe school board unanimously approved the agreement with the Monroe Education Association at Monday's meeting. MEA ratified the agreement prior to the meeting.
"I just want to really thank MEA for letting us get this through" in one meeting, said school board member Brian Keith.
Effective as of Sept. 1, the raise doesn't allow step movement or step increases, but it does still allow lane changes. Ron Olson, the district's business manager, projects the increase at a total cost of about $233,000, but the actual cost will be lower because of teacher retirements and resignations. Base wages for MEA total more than $10 million.
Board member Jim Plourde was absent from Monday's meeting.
