DARLINGTON - The intersection of Wisconsin 23 and Wisconsin 81 in Darlington was closed two hours Tuesday afternoon after a truck carrying two pickup trucks accidentally dumped its cargo.

According to the Darlington Police Department, a truck pulling a fifth-wheeler trailer with two pickup trucks on it was northbound on Wis. 23 when the driver tried turning left onto Wis. 81.

But the driver, Deande M. Williams, 23, Riverdale, Illinois, "attempted the turn too fast thereby causing the load to shift and overturn," Police Chief Jason King wrote in a news release.

Police were called to the scene at 2:22 p.m.

Both trucks on the trailer were new, with one valued at $70,000 and the other at $54,000. The truck towing the trailer as well as the two overturned trucks sustained severe damage. No injuries were reported.

Williams was cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

Assisting police at the scene were the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, Lafayette County Highway Department, Darlington Public Works, Rural Medical Ambulance Service, Argyle Fire Department and Al's Towing.

An inspector from the Wisconsin State Patrol was also called in to inspect the towing unit and trailer, King wrote.

Cleaning up the accident shut down the intersection for two hours.
