MONROE - An armed Brodhead man was placed in a protective alcohol placement Wednesday evening after he was found intoxicated with a firearm and a significant amount of ammunition in Monroe.
The 32-year-old man was found in a Monroe motel in the 500 block of 4th Avenue at 10:08 p.m. after a citizen reported that the man had bought ammunition and had made concerning statements.
In addition to the ammunition, the man - whose name has not been released, because he has not been charged - was found with an AR-15 .223 caliber semiautomatic rifle, several knives and bottles of liquor.
Officers persuaded the man to leave the room without incident. He is currently being held in protective alcohol placement at a Madison facility.
A decision regarding whether charges will be filed against the man will be made pending the results of further evaluation.
