MONROE - Progress by Rock Road Construction Inc. of Janesville on the 8th Street project will soon be evident as crews plan to shift traffic access to outside lanes on June 16.
Director of Public Works Al Gerber noted the plans during a Monroe Common Council meeting on Tuesday. He said the construction plan outlines work to first be done on the southern lanes, which will shift into the middle lanes of the road and eventually to the northern side of 8th Street.
Rock Road general contractor Bob Kennedy had noted asphalt should be laid on the southern lanes by the end of the week, followed by the second stage, which will begin once traffic is shifted. The third stage is scheduled for mid-July; the project is slated for completion by Sept. 30.
Gerber noted that roughly 2.5 additional miles of streets throughout the city will receive maintenance from city crew workers in 2017. Work should total about $350,000, he added.
Road work on 11th Street and 21st Street, which includes tearing up streets and re-paving, was recently awarded to Rock Road for $306,000. Gerber said during the Board of Public Works meeting Monday that the offer by Rock Road was lower than anticipated. The scheduled work includes 11th Street, which will be done in July, and 21st Street repairs, which will be completed in October due to company time restraints.
An additional 1,600 feet of curb and gutter needs to be replaced in the city. A bid by Jeff Voegeli Landscaping Inc. of Monroe for a total of $70,180 was accepted by council members Tuesday. Gerber said the work is scheduled to begin around July 18 and should be completed by the end of that month.
