MONROE — Four stranded drivers were rescued out of flood water in the county last week, with two cited for disobeying road closure signs, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
No injuries were reported from the incidents. The vehicles were either towed out of the water with severe damage or left on scene until flooding receded enough to remove them.
Three of the rescues occurred Thursday, March 14, as flooding began to make many county and township roads impassable. The sheriff’s office alerted residents to avoid closed roads and not to drive around barricades blocking traffic.
Karolyn M. Walker, 41, Juda, was northbound on Schneeberger Road near the intersection of Zurfluh Road in the Town of Albany at about 6:30 a.m. when her vehicle stalled and became stranded in water. The Monticello Fire Department assisted her from the vehicle.
Michael K. Harris, 41, Milwaukee, was eastbound on Town Center Road near the intersection with County T in the Town of Spring Grove at about 7:30 a.m. when his vehicle became stranded in water. The Brodhead Fire Department assisted him from the vehicle. Brodhead police assisted on scene.
