DARLINGTON — An anonymous tip helped police identify the driver in a hit-and-run crash on a horse-drawn buggy earlier this week near Darlington, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Jennifer L. Mckee, 33, Warren, was driving the 2015 GMC Arcadia that rear-ended the buggy shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. The impact threw the buggy into the ditch, killing the horse, injuring the buggy driver and severely damaging the buggy.

Sheriff Reg Gill released her name Tuesday evening, Sept. 17, explaining that her identity was confirmed after deputies followed up on a tip from an anonymous caller to the sheriff’s office earlier in the day.

“No charges have been issued at this time, as the crash remains under investigation,” he wrote. He thanked the anonymous caller for the information and the Warren Police Department for assistance.

The crash happened in the 17000 block of Wisconsin 81, Town of Darlington.

Joseph S. King, 20, Darlington, was eastbound in the open buggy when he was rear-ended by McKee’s SUV, according to the sheriff’s office. She did not stop and continued driving. King was able to make contact with a nearby resident who called 911 to report the crash at 2:57 a.m.

King was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.
