ALBANY - All residents with private wells in the towns of Albany, Brooklyn, Mount Pleasant and New Glarus will have the opportunity to test at a reduced cost and learn about their drinking water. Others county residents may also take advantage of the opportunity to test their drinking water.

Groundwater specialists encourage rural residents to test their water at least once every two years. The program is voluntary.

Special bottles are required for these tests, and there is a cost for this testing. Participants may choose one or more of the well testing packages described below.

Homeowner Package: Includes tests for nitrate, coliform bacteria, pH, alkalinity and hardness. The cost is $49.

Metals Package: Tests for arsenic, lead, copper, iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, manganese, sodium, potassium and sulfate. The cost is $49.

Triazine Screen: Includes tests for Triazine-type pesticides such as atrazine. The cost is $27.
