Driftless Woolets opens in Argyle
news brief community

ARGYLE — Driftless Woollets is a new business in Argyle and is on a mission to save the planet with the use of raw wool as a soil amendment.

Woollets are compressed raw wool, pelleted for ease of use. Woollets are used to replace peat, as well as plastic water gels.

“By using Woollets instead of peat, we are saving our peat bogs for carbon sequestration as the world’s largest carbon sink,” said Elaine Becker in a press release. “Wool is also a carbon sink — so when it goes into the ground, the carbon stays in the ground.”

Woollets are infinitely renewable, sustainable, and eco-friendly. Watering of plants and gardens is reduced by 25%, nutrient value is 9-0-2 NPK, and slugs and snails are repelled due to lanolin and barbed fibers.

In 2022, the scientific journal, Agronomy, cited that they are a viable alternative to commercial fertilizer. The University of Vermont Extension has also done a study concluding very promising results. Eco-friendly, sustainable, and renewable, Driftless Woollets is a gardener’s dream.

Woollets are sold online at https://www.driftlesswoollets.com/ and in stores at Top Notch in New Glarus, Ederer’s in Blanchardville, and soon will be coming to Jung’s Garden Centers.
