MONROE - Kevin Indergand had a goal when his Green County Leaders group organized the "Pawlapalooza" fundraising campaign: the group wanted to come up with a unique plan to help raise money for the Green County Humane Society.

The event is the brain-child of Indergand, Jodi Gile, Anna Metz, Jennifer Kallembach and Debra Villa. They are members of the Green County Leaders program.

"We brainstormed a few different ideas and came up with an idea that would help the humane society," he said.

The event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Monroe Country Club. Tickets are $40 per person and are available by calling the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry at 325-7658.

In addition to wine and hors d'oeuvre pairings, colorful hand-painted dogs and cats statues designed by area high school students will be available for auction. The statues were painted by students from Brodhead, Darlington, Monroe and New Glarus.

The statues are available for viewing at Pinnow Pharmacy in Brodhead until Monday and at Portraits by Dawn in Monroe until April 24.

Raffle tickets are also on sale at several area businesses including the Beast Buffet, Pick 'n Save, Walgreens, Kundert Oil, Lucky 7, Baumgartner Cheese Store and Tavern, Flanagan's Shenanigans, Bartels, Old Smokey, The Depot, Friendly Inn and Leisure Lanes. Tickets are also available at the Green County Humane Society.

Tickets are $10. First-prize is a two-night stay at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Second- and third-prizes are $100 gift certificates to the Beast Buffet and Mound Pet Food Warehouses.

The event is sponsored by Badger State Ethanol, Monroe Clinic, Maple Leaf Cheese, Precision Drive and Control, Dave and Mary Flynn and Zwygart Century 21.

The mission of the Green County Leaders program is to enhance leadership skills, prepare participants for leadership roles and raise awareness of community issues.
