MONROE - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is accepting comments on the City of Monroe's plan to improve its wastewater treatment plant.
Although the proposed project is not expected to involve significant environmental impacts, the DNR is soliciting public comments. Comments will be accepted through Tuesday, July 17.
Residents can view the plan at the city clerk's office.
Comments should be directed to Gerry Novotny, Bureau of Watershed Management, Department of Natural Resources, Box 7921, Madison, WI 53707, (608) 267-7625.
The current permit expires Dec. 31, 2014. The city says the project is needed to provide capacity for current loadings and future growth, to address inadequate sludge storage, to replace aging equipment and to increase energy efficiency.
The project is estimated to cost about $22.5 million. City officials anticipate financing the project with a Clean Water Fund loan. However, user charges are expected to increase by 28 to 33 percent as a result of the project.
