There's a myriad of one-of-a-kind cabins and cottages strewn across Wisconsin - each as unique as the state they were built in. So to honor Wisconsin's stunning cabin collection, our crew set out to find the state's most exceptional, most interesting and most beautiful cottages. We turned to Discover Wisconsin fans for a little help and as per usual, they didn't disappoint. Our parade of cabins starts in the home of the authentic Northwoods experience:
1. The Absolute Escape - With a name like that, it has to be amazing, right? And it is: Nestled among towering white pines on the shore of Big St. Germain Lake, the Absolute Escape is just minutes from the quaint towns of St. Germain, Minocqua and Eagle River. Our crew filmed this beaut a few seasons back and we've been raving about it ever since.
2. Caboose Cabin - Secluded on five acres in De Soto, this vacation lodge features a kitchen, bath, gas fireplace, private deck and hot tub. Sounds like a classic Wisconsin cabin until you take a look at its uncommon but totally awesome exterior: It's actually an original 1954 railroad caboose.
3. Candlewood's Glass House - Hidden within the beautiful hills of southwest Wisconsin's Ocooch Mountains, Candlewood's Glass House provides each of its guests an unforgettable retreat. You simply can't find a place like Candlewood's anywhere else. This Richland Center chalet is open year-round and is a favorite among fishing enthusiasts thanks to the nearby Class 1 and 2 trout streams.
4. Garmisch USA - Open the door to any one of the cabins at Garmisch USA just outside of Cable and you're instantly transported to the old-time days of Northwoods Wisconsin. A favorite Garmisch lodge among travelers is Blarney Castle. With five bedrooms, five baths and 3,600-plus square feet, this whimsical fortress has room for your entire noble family - plus your royal entourage.
5. Seth Peterson Cottage - This teeny tiny dwelling is 880 square feet of architectural magic designed by the one and only Frank Lloyd Wright. The Cottage is balanced just on the edge of the steep wooded hill that plunges down to Mirror Lake. Want to see it for yourself?
