MONROE - Whitney Disch has been named the 2015 Green County Fairest of the Fair.

Disch, 19, is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she is studying psychology; she hopes to study nursing in the future. She plans to work as a nurse in the behavioral health department so she can work with people who have mental and psychological illnesses.

Disch grew up in Monroe, and was active in volleyball, basketball, track and field, softball, forensics and choir. She was the 2013-15 Monroe Dairy Queen.

While at UW-Madison, she is an active Badger volunteer and is part of the Aspiring Nurses Association.

Disch is the daughter of Roderick and Anita Disch.

Rachel Gilson was also a candidate for Green County Fairest of the Fair. Gilson is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where she is majoring in animal science with an emphasis in dairy and a minor in agribusiness.

Gilson grew up on a 70-acre dairy farm outside of New Glarus, where her family has been involved in showing Holstein dairy cattle. She has been showing and exhibiting projects at the Green County Fair for the past nine years, and also at the Wisconsin State Fair for the past six years and is currently a herdsman for the county. At UW-Platteville, she is active in the Pioneer Dairy Club and Pioneer national Agrimarketing Association.

The candidates were interviewed by a panel of three judges. They were judged on an interview, a 30-second radio spot that they wrote and delivered, and given impromptu questions.

Alicia Gordee-Kubly was the 2014 Fairest of the Fair. During her reign, she attended parades, made school visits, attended civic meetings and put in many hours at last year's fair. She is a tech education teacher at Albany High School.
