Deer makes surprise visit to grocery

MONROE - "Oh, deer."

That may have been the reaction of shoppers at Monroe's Pick 'n Save when a deer broke into the store through a window at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Store manager Tom Kundert said the deer broke through a window where the carts are stored and tried to get into the produce section, but the doors wouldn't open. The deer then broke through another window to leave. It tried to enter the store through the doors on the northeast side of the building but couldn't. Eventually it ran around the side of the building, Kundert said.

Kundert said the incident happened so quickly people in the store were surprised.

"We were fortunate no one was injured," Kundert said. "It's also fortunate the deer didn't get inside of the store."
