TOWN OF ARENA (AP) - Authorities in southwestern Wisconsin are investigating after dead and malnourished animals were found on a farm.
Ten cows and a hog were found dead on the farm in the Town of Arena. Twenty-eight cows were taken from the farm.
Investigators got an anonymous tip that the animals were not being fed properly. Sheriff's deputies went to the farm on March 1. Investigators say the animals kept in the barn did not have a supply of water.
Iowa County Sheriff Steve Michek tells WISC-TV investigators do not believe the owners of the animals intended to neglect them, but instead lacked resources to care for them.
The couple also operates a horse boarding operation. Investigators say all of the horses are well cared for, and that operation will not be affected.
