MADISON - For his work to save the state's public virtual schools, the Wisconsin Institute for Leadership has announced state Rep. Brett Davis, R-Oregon, a recipient of its 'WIL Working for Wisconsin' award.
"Representative Brett Davis' efforts are proof that Wisconsin government can work," said Wisconsin Institute for Leadership (WIL) Executive Director Brian Fraley. "After a court ruling threatened to close the state's public virtual schools, including one in Monroe, Davis successfully worked with Democrats and Republicans to keep them open."
Davis worked with school operators, superintendents, teachers and parents from across Wisconsin to save the schools, WIL said, citing a Wisconsin State Journal editorial that said the "bill should serve as an example of how to do the people's business in a responsible, effective and timely way."
Davis will receive the award, a simple crescent wrench mounted on a plaque, later this year.
The award honors and recognizes ingenuity, integrity and work ethic in the public policy arena. The awards are presented each August.
