DARLINGTON - A resident was taken into custody at the Lafayette County Jail just after 1 a.m. Sunday following a stabbing at a residence on East Street.
Julie M. Lofftin, 42, Darlington, was arrested by the Darlington Police Department for substantial battery with intent to cause bodily harm, a Class I felony. In the court record, the charge specifies the incident was domestic abuse.
According to a release sent by Darlington Police Chief Jason King, an investigation was made after a disturbance at the residence. Lofftin allegedly stabbed a 49-year-old acquaintance in the leg with a kitchen knife. The acquaintance was taken to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County for a minor injury, which required stitches.
In 2011, Lofftin pleaded no contest to a Class A misdemeanor count of battery and a Class I felony count of substantial battery with a dangerous weapon in Dane County Circuit Court. In July 2016 she was also charged with a Class A misdemeanor of battery, but the count was dismissed, and she pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.
Lofftin remains in custody at the jail, pending future court proceedings. Lafayette County deputies assisted with the investigation.
Lofftin faces a maximum possible sentence of 3.5 years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
