DARLINGTON - Authorities say this weekend's snow and ice led to a fatal crash in Lafayette County. It is the county's first traffic death of the year.
Lafayette County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy John Reichling said two vehicles collided Saturday at about 5:45 p.m., about five miles west of Darlington on Wisconsin 81, near County U.
Lilia P. Moreno-Landero, 25, Darlington was pronounced dead at the scene by Lafayette County Coroner Virginia Douglas. She had been eastbound in a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina.
The other driver, Donna J. Zee, 51, Belmont, had been westbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Maibu. Zee was taken to Lafayette County Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation, although Reichling notes that the road was snow-covered and slippery.
Both women were wearing seat belts.
Lafayette County Sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by Darlington Police, Rural Medical Ambulance, Darlington Fire Department, Lafayette County Highway Department and the Coroner's Office.
