DARLINGTON - Darlington Police are seeking two men who were recorded breaking into a Darlington business and stealing almost $30,000 worth of cellphones on Saturday.

The perpetrators were filmed by business security cameras breaking into U.S. Cellular in Darlington and stealing $27,711 worth of smartphones.

The videos depict two men breaking through the glass door of U.S. Cellular and moving throughout the store. The suspects were described as black and wearing dark clothes with baseball caps that obscured their features.

According to a Darlington Police news release, the burglary, which took place in the morning hours of Sept. 17, happened moments after a 911 call reported a violent sexual assault in progress in a Darlington cemetery. No sign of any such attack could be found, and police now believe the call was placed by the suspects to divert police resources away from the scene of the burglary.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Darlington Police at (608) 776-4983 or their anonymous tip line at 1-800-606-TIPS. Informants with information that leads to the capture of the suspects are eligible for a $1,000 reward.
