Darlington PD reminds of snow removal laws
Winter Weather snow driving

DARLINGTON — Darlington Police Officers wish to remind City of Darlington property owners about ordinances that require them to remove snow/ice from public sidewalks upon their property within 24 hours of the snow/ice event. Failure to do so is a violation of municipal code and is subject to a $175.30 fine for each occurrence.

Due to concerns expressed by citizens about the health and safety of pedestrians, officers and public works officials will be keeping a closer eye on snow removal efforts this winter. Officers intend to offer one warning to violators but will strictly enforce the ordinance thereafter. If the city is required to remove the snow/ice, property owners will be charged an additional expense for labor and a special charge for services may be imposed as a special tax upon their property tax bill.

With questions, contact the police chief at 776-4981 or the director of public works at 776-4973.
