DARLINGTON - Despite valiant efforts, Darlington officials learned Monday they weren't the town claiming the title of "Ranger Country USA" but were happy nonetheless with the exposure it garnered.

"As part of the campaign, our community has been featured on countless websites, in the news, and in magazines. The exposure has been good for our community and will serve to promote tourism on our trail system," Darlington Police Chief Jason King stated in a Facebook post.

Pinedale, Wyoming, was the town to take the title, and Darlington and three other towns were left defeated.

"While we did not win the grand prize, we are still winners," King said.

Polaris started the campaign in the fall of 2017 when they made their one millionth Ranger. To celebrate, they searched for a town in the United States that embodies the values of Ranger. Darlington was chosen as one of the five towns nominated, along with Spring Creek, Nevada, Stephenville, Texas, Corning, Arkansas, and the winner Pinedale. Darlington was the top community in the United States with the highest per capita Polaris ownership.

In November, a marketing company, The Brand Amp, called King to see if they could drop in and film a commercial showing how Darlington uses the vehicle throughout the community. That commercial was posted on the Polaris Ranger website and people could vote on who they thought should win the title.

The winner was awarded with a donation of three Polaris Ranger vehicles to deserving organizations, an official naming ceremony and a special guest appearance, along with other festivities.
