Darlington man killed in head-on crash vs. farm equipment in Rock County

JANESVILLE — A 58-year-old Darlington man was killed on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Rock County, according to a statement made by Sheriff Curtis Fell. The name of the deceased had not been released by the Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office as of press time.

According to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:35 a.m. on Oct. 19, dispatch received a report of a two-vehicle crash at the Rock River Bridge on U.S. 14 west of Janesville. One of the drivers reportedly had serious injuries. The Janesville Police Department and Janesville Fire Department also responded to the scene.

“The investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by a 58-year-old man from Darlington, WI, was traveling eastbound across the Rock River Bridge when the collision occurred,” Fell’s press release said. “A farm tractor pulling a large planting drill, operated by a 63-year-old man from Janesville, was traveling westbound crossing the bridge. As the two vehicles were passing in opposite directions the car struck the large farm implement being towed.

The Darlington man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 68-year-old woman from Darlington, was transported by Janesville Fire to the Mercy Trauma Center in Janesville with non-life-threatening injuries, the statement said. The operator of the tractor did not receive medical treatment.

U.S. 14 was closed for about six hours during the investigation. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team, as well as Drone Team members, completed the reconstruction of the accident.
