MONROE - A Darlington man faces charges in Green County Circuit Court that he trespassed earlier this month into the home of a Monroe woman he knows, hit her and strangled her with a belt.
Chad Alan Johnson, 33, was charged Aug. 12 with felony counts of strangulation, false imprisonment and intimidation of a victim, as well as misdemeanor counts of trespassing, disorderly conduct, battery and bail jumping.
He reportedly came in through the back door of the woman's home on Aug. 9, hit her in the face and hip and blocked her from leaving, then took his belt and wrapped it around her neck and threatened to kill her.
Johnson signed a $10,000 signature bond Monday and signed (but did not post) a $3,000 cash bond, according to court records. Conditions of bond include no contact with the woman or her residence.
The court also forbids him from being in Green County, except for court hearings or to meet with his attorney.
Johnson faces an additional charge of disorderly conduct, filed earlier this summer, for another reported domestic abuse incident involving the same woman. On June 25, he reportedly shoved her against a wall, causing a cut to the skin near her collarbone and breaking the necklace she was wearing.
His has a status conference Sept. 10 in the earlier case and a pre-trial conference Oct. 6 in the more recent case.
