DARLINGTON — One person is dead after a possible fire in their kitchen caught the house on fire in the early morning hours on Sunday, March 27.

Jacob Boegli, 28, died as a result of the fire.

According to Darlington Police Chief Jason King, Darlington Police Department and Fire Department were alerted to a house fire on North Street at 4:16 a.m., after a resident who lived about a block away from the house called 911 reporting smoke in the neighborhood.

When first responders found the home, it was actively involved in flames.

Firefighters removed Boegli from the house and he was pronounced dead by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.

The matter remains under investigation, but initial findings suggest the origin of the fire was in the area of the kitchen stove. The house is considered a total loss.

Lafayette County EMS and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, along with mutual aid from Mineral Point, Argyle, and Shullsburg Fire Departments.
