DARLINGTON — The Darlington City Council met on Tuesday, March 5, to administer the oath of office to incoming Police Chief Szvon Conway and to take action on leasing city property to the Darlington Community Fire District.
City Attorney Aaron Stauffacher presented a lease agreement, between the city and the Darlington Community Fire District, to lease a two-acre lot, located near the Darlington Waste Water Treatment plant. The lease is for ten years and will cost the Fire District $10 per year.
The proposed use of the land will be for fire department training exercises, preparation and temporary parking and storage. The land cannot make material changes or excavations to the land without written consent from the City of Darlington.
The area will be tentative called the Bob Monson Training Facility.
The item was tabled, so the lease agreement can have a few items corrected.
Oath of Office
Mayor Mike McDermott administered the Oath of Office to new Police Chief Szvon Conway.
Conway introduced a full meeting room of his family, friends and working relationships — Sheriff Reg Gill, Undersheriff Troy Loeffelholz and Darlington Police officers.
“Thanks for coming here today for the support and I’m looking forward to continued partnerships,” Conway said.
In other business, the city council approved paying the Feb. 2024 vouchers in the amount of $2,022,500.
