DARLINGTON — The Darlington City Council met Tuesday, May 22 after it was rescheduled due to threatening weather.

An ordinance regarding vendors was discussed at a Policies, Procedures and Ordinance Committee meeting, prior to the council meeting.

The ordinance is dealing with the permitting process and location of vendors like food trucks and food trailers. The discussion was lively with many questions.

Exceptions include — lemonade stands; established business selling on the sidewalk; participants at the farmers market; vendors selling on behalf of non-profit, religious, government or civic organization; City council, Chamber or other broad based special sanctioned event.

The location for a permitted vendor is to be located at the Darlington festival grounds only, unless a special permission by the City is given.

A permit will be tentatively $30 for a year or $5 per day.

There was no action regarding the ordinance related to vendor permits. The committee will be researching the topic further and possibly having a public hearing. The topic will be revisited at a future meeting.

●  Heard a report that the pool has broken pipes, including to the main line that fills the pool. As a result the pool will open later than previously scheduled — two or three weeks, maybe longer.

●  Approved a temporary class B retailers license for the Beowulf MC Ltd. for June 8-9.

●  Approved hiring  an interim part-time public works employee. The need arose because of the resignation of Allen Coulthard.
