MONROE - Area schools began to close early today as Green and Lafayette
counties braced for freezing rain.
Black Hawk, Pecatonica, Darlington and Argyle schools closed early.
According to the National Weather Service, a freezing rain advisory is in effect until noon Thursday. One- to two-tenths of an inch of ice is expected southwest of Madison; roads are expected to be slick due to the ice. The sleet and light freezing rain are expected to arrive in southern Wisconsin through the evening.
The light rain and light sleet are predicted to continue until noon, the National Weather Service said. The forecast called for freezing rain mixed with sleet after 3 p.m. with little or no snow. There is an 80 percent chance of rain tonight. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-20s. For Thursday, there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation with rain and sleet ending around noon. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s.
