MONROE - The Monroe City Band will begin its 63rd concert season at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 11 in the Twining Park band shell.
As part of the evening, reigning Monroe Dairy Queen Molly Wyss will pass her crown to one of the three candidates in the running for the 2012-13 office. This year, the three young women vying for the position are active in their community and various organizations; each will be a junior this fall at Monroe High School. They are Whitney Disch, daughter of Roderick and Anita Disch; Danielle Schneider, daughter of Dan and DarLyne Schneider; and Taylor Albright, daughter of Ron and Karla Albright.
In case of inclement weather that night, the band concert will be canceled and the coronation of the Dairy Queen will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Turner Hall, 1217 17th Ave.
Seating is available or concert-goers may bring lawn chairs or blankets.
The band, operated as part of Monroe's Park and Recreation department, performs a series of concerts through June and July on alternate Monday evenings. The Green County Ag Chest sponsors the Dairy Queen program, which promotes the county's agriculture industry, its products and its people.
