FENNIMORE - The first annual "Dairy Production Seminar" hosted by UW-Extension will be from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19 in room 493, Southwest Technical College, 1800 Bronson Blvd., Fennimore. This year's seminar will focus on heifer and transition cow management. Speakers will include Dr. Matt Akins, assistant scientist and Extension dairy specialist, speaking on how to manage heifer nutrition for optimal growth and profitability; Dr. Pamela Ruegg, University of Wisconsin Department of Dairy Science, speaking on managing dry-off and transitions to produce high quality milk; Dr. David Kammel, UW agriculture engineering, exploring what every transition cow barn needs and is it worth the investments; and Kory Stalsberg, dairy and livestock agent, who will demonstrate navigating the Dairyland Initiative website and how this on-line tool can be helpful to increase cow comfort and production.
