DARLINGTON - The third traffic fatality of the year in Lafayette County - the third in less than two weeks - occurred Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle crash in Belmont township.
According to a news release from Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley, an eastbound vehicle went out of control on Hickory Road, left the north side of the road and overturned multiple times.
The driver, Marcus T. Helgeson, 25, Fitchburg, was alone and not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the vehicle.
Helgeson was pronounced dead at the scene by Lafayette County Coroner Virginia Douglas.
Recently, Lilia P. Moreno-Landero, 25, Darlington, was killed in a two-vehicle crash March 28 about five miles west of Darlington on Wisconsin 81.
Zachary W. Jenkins, 21, Argyle was killed in a one-car crash Sunday on Spore Road about one mile west of Wisconsin 78 south of Argyle in Argyle township.
The were four traffic deaths in all of 2008 in Lafayette County.
