The Green County Cheese Days Cow Milking Contest is back for 2010.

The festival is currently seeking teams to show their skills at using the "pull and squirt" method to see how much milk they can get into their pails in the four-minute time limit.

Representatives from various dairy breeds (Holstein, Brown Swiss, Jersey, and Guernsey) will be selected for the competition taking place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

Categories for the teams include Experienced Milkers (Green County FFA, FFA Alumni, and Farmers), "Wheel of Swiss" festival sponsors, dignitaries and festival royalty, Green County businesses or communities, Green County schools and a limited number of open teams for anyone who wants to form a group.

Following the team competition, anyone interested in taking a turn can sign up starting at noon and will be given a ticket for the lottery drawing. The number of people who will be allowed to participate depends on the amount of time remaining for the contest.

Teams of four will be allowed for group registrations Each team member will milk a cow for one minute. Groups can wear shirts or costumes representing their organizations.

All participants receive coupons for the Cheese Tent, and winners receive awards.

To register a team, contact the Cheese Days office at (608) 325-7771, or send an e-mail to cheesedays@tds.net. Include the group's name, individual team member names, and the phone number to contact the team captain.
